How hard is to make friends when you are an adult? The answer is VERY hard! I have lived in 3 states and have had a problem making friends my whole life. Perhaps that's because I am a female. Women are naturally terratorial and don't want any 'new blood' in their groups.
How did I end up with 30 close girl friends 2 months after I moved to Colorado? That's right... 30. Most girls can keep 2 close friends. I have an unlimited supply of support and the ability to call anyone to meet me out for a drink and some girl talk.
I started a group in Colorado Springs, co for girls to make friends. If I have a problem making friends... I am quite sure girls around the world do too. At our first meeting on October 4, 2008 we had 15 members and 8 girls attended. We set up some fun events throughout the month like haunted mine trip, pumpkin carving and line dancing.
November looked more promising... at our November brunch on November 8, 2008 we had 30 girls attend. A few of our events scheduled for the month were skating, happy hours and orphan thanksgiving.
December really went well. We were up to 90 members and we had only about 35 attend the monthly brunch due to the holidays the festival of lights blocking the streets. None the less we scheduled a ton of events like: happy hours, facials, light festival at the zoo, cookie exchange, girls night downtown and a list of other events.
I am so proud of this group that I thought it would be a good idea to see if other girls around the country wanted to start something in their area. Low and behold we now have 5 states with groups and many more to come.
Our group offers stuff like a monthly book club, recipe exchange, and advice for everything under the sun... dating, business, kids, etc.
The advice column will be an interactive forum once I get enough traffic on the site. Which is averaging about 16 new visitors a day. So far we are 9 days into december and we have had 128 visitors. Last month we were only up and running about 20 days and we had 258 visitors.
My intention is to sell some advertising space on the site so we can fund our happy hours and brunches. What would be better than free drinks and food and making friends?
